Dorothy Lowakutuk was born and raised in the quaint village of Lonkuninyani, пeѕtɩed in the Mathew Range area of Samburu East. She attended elementary school from 2000 to 2008 and then attended high school at Riverside High School in Nakuru. Her academic journey led her to earn a diploma in Community Development and ѕoсіаɩ Work from the Thika Business Research Institute.

Dorothy’s journey at the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary began on November 26, 2016, when she joined as an elephant keeper. It has been her lifelong dream to contribute to conservation efforts and foster connections between wildlife and her community.

By doing so, she wants to educate the younger generation about the importance of protecting our environment.

On her first day as an Elephant Keeper, Dorothy was assigned to the kitchen department, where she gained a better understanding of elephant nutrition and the dietary needs of other ѕрeсіeѕ.

Although there is still much to learn, her passion for the profession and willingness to devote helped her grasp knowledge quickly. In addition, the repetitive task of preparing the elephant’s milk bottle every three hours aided her learning process.
